This rose looks nice but something makes me wonder. Is it kitsch? The kitsch definition is: “calculated to have popular appeal” – a crowd pleaser.
Kant describes the direct appeal to the senses as “barbaric” – I feel similar. The presence of sentimentality and the lack of originality seems Kitsch. I can go to a bloody supermarket and they display posters of the same rose, no origanility or whatsoever. The supermarket put it there to please the crowd – it’s demanded and formulted by the needs of the market and the masses. It gives the people leisure and something to watch or observe. It is the denial of shit – a sanitized view of the world, in which all answers are given in advance and preclude any questions.
