The Gringo Trail
I was travelling the gringo trail in Central America in the 90ies a couple of times. It’s convenient since distances are short, it’s cheap and easy enough to travel (not always though). This picture was taken in Nicaragua.
It basically starts in Mexico, then Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, El Salvador and Panama. Then it’s kind of over because between there and Colombia is the Darién Gap which is a large swath of undeveloped swampland and forest. It is also regarded as a “no man’s land. These are the dangers to be found there:
- tough nasty jungle with plenty of disagreeable wildlife
- impenetrable swamps
- crazed drug traffikers
- pissed-off guerrillas
- greedy kidnappers (all of the guys mentioned above)
- paranoid government police
- no marked trails
Enjoy… I flew from Mexico to Venezuela to meet my girl friend there.

sounds fun enough – I’ll add that gringo trail to my to-do list
